7 Maintenance and
Troubleshooting
7.1
Overview
The Polychromix DTS Spectrometer is a rugged instrument that is designed
for use in a laboratory or field application with a minimum amount of
maintenance. Since it is normally used with an integrating sphere or a source
and cuvette holder, we describe the maintenance and troubleshooting with
respect to the entire system.
The user should refer to the documentation provided with the integrating
sphere or source and sample holder, as it is very possible that the problem is
in one of these components, rather than the spectrometer.
7.2
Maintenance
The Polychromix DTS Spectrometer requires a minimum amount of
maintenance.
NOTE: There are no user replaceable parts inside the spectrometer and
it should not be disassembled by the user.
NOTE: If the USB cable or fiber optic cable is removed from the
spectrometer, place a piece of tape across the opening or cap it so that
dust and other foreign material cannot enter the spectrometer
If necessary, the unit can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
The lamp in the source should be replaced on a periodic basis as described
in the documentation provided with the source. Typically, the lamp life is
1000-2000 hours, but this time is dependent on the lamp and the degree of
noise that can be tolerated in the spectrum.
