ADDRESS_MODE = 2 is the standard RC232 addressing, using the SYSTEM_ID and the
UNIQUE_ID. The SYSTEM_ID must be equal if two modules shall communicate. See the
RC232 User Manual for further details.
Unique for RC2100 is the ADDRESS_MODE = 9 which use a PAN_ID in addition to the
SYSTEM_ID and the UNIQUE_ID. The PAN_ID is a 16 bit network address that must be
equal if two modules shall communicate. The PAN_ID is set in the configuration memory. The
combination of SYSTEM_ID and UNIQUE_ID makes up a 16 bit address that should be
unique for each unit. That is, in this address mode two units with different SYSTEM_ID may
communicate as long as they have the same PAN_ID.
The SYSTEM_DESTINATION_ID and the UNIQUE_DESTINATION_ID default values are set
in configuration memory (non-volatile memory). They may also be changed in volatile memory
using the ‘T’ command by entering two bytes, the SYSTEM_DESTINATION_ID first, then the
UNIQUE_DESTINATION_ID. There is no prompt between the two entries.
By using address mode 9 a total of 65000 nodes can operate in one PAN.
