GUIDE TO SUBMITTING JOBS FROM THE CLIENT
lpr
Use the
OSU command to send a document to a specific DocuPrint
printer or to specify print options for the job you are submitting. To do
so, type the lpr command and its arguments on the command line
using the following syntax:
Syntax (DOS)
lpr -S
Syntax (UNIX)
lpr -Pprinter
Required Information
-S
Sends the specified files to the Printer Controller you specify in
the
-Pprinter
The virtual printer you want to use. If your UNIX environment is
set up to specify the DocuPrint printer as the default printer, you
may not need to enter -P. Ask your system administrator to verify
this information.
The names of the files you want to print including any filename
extension.
Note:
•
For DOS: If you specify a wildcard (*) as the filename on a
PC running DOS and Pathway Access 2.1/Wollongong
WIN TCP/IP version 5.1 to submit print jobs, the correct
sender name will not be displayed with all jobs. When you
enter the list document command at the Printer Controller,
the sender name is correct for the first job. All subsequent
jobs list the IP address of the client as the sender name.
•
For DOS: If you are running FTP TCP/IP software and
submitting a PCL job, add an -f to the lpr command line.
For example, lpr -S
as a standard Fortran carriage control character.
•
For UNIX: If you submit two files to the DocuPrint printer
and the first file is nonexistent, the second file prints but the
filename is replaced by the name of the first file.
Options
In addition to the required arguments, you can use the options listed
below. You may enter multiple options separated by commas within
the parentheses.
You must enter uppercase -C and -J, but the other options are not
case sensitive. See your system administrator to locate the lpr
command man page for more information.
If the text you enter after the print options (shown in angle brackets
below) contains spaces, enclose the text with double quotation
marks.
