Selecting the rendering algorithm
You can use Mapping Mode to specify which qualities are the most
important to preserve, since some information is lost in mapping from
a three-dimensional color application (such as RGB) to a two-
dimensional color application provided with highlight color printing.
The following mapping mode options are available:
•
Use Printer Default
This option overrides job settings and uses printer default
settings.
•
Monochrome
This option specifies black and white printing only.
•
Pictorial
This option is for use with photographic images. It uses
luminance information to map full color to highlight colors. The
color portions of an image that are the same color as the
specified extraction color are printed in a shade of the highlight
color.
•
Presentation
This option is for use with presentation graphics. It uses hue
information to map full color to highlight colors. Any color
element in the graphic is printed in a shade of highlight color.
Non-color elements (black, white and gray) are printed in black,
white and shades of gray. This option distinguishes between
different colors and is a good choice for charts and diagrams
because they typically use distinctly different colors.
•
Automatic
This option chooses a mapping method on an object-by-object
basis. For example, this option applies the pictorial mapping for
pictures and the presentation mapping for other objects (filled
areas, strokes, and text).
•
ColorToHighlight
This option discards the hue information and preserves the
saturation and value of the color application.
•
Color Tables
This option uses preset color tables to perform the mapping. It
is provided for compatibility and has no effect with cyan.
To select a rendering algorithm:
1. From the Highlight Color Setup dialog box, select the
[Rendering Algorithm] list box.
2. Select the Rendering Algorithm you want to use.
3. Click [OK].
