You can then turn the key (if there is a key) to normal at this time so the
machine will reboot when the install is complete.

You should see the mksysb being restored, and then you should see

installp

called later when

cfgmgr

is called from the script to install any additional

devices it detects.

Warning for AIX Version 4.1.4 or Prior
When installing a mksysb on a different platform type (for example, an rs6k
mksysb to an rs6ksmp or an rs6k to an rspc), the first bosboot that BOS
install attempts will fail, and a message will be printed out to ask if you want
to do maintenance or continue. You should just continue at this point, and the
cloner script will run. You will not see any output until the copyright screen at
the end and the machine reboots. This step may last over half an hour.

This problem has been fixed in 4.1.5.0. The system will check to see if there
is a cloner customization script in the bosinst.data file, and if there is, it will
not stop when the bosboot fails. It will continue the install and run the cloner
script, knowing that the cloner script will run the bosboot.

8.3.5 Cloning on AIX Version 4.2 and 4.3

The following sections describe how to clone disk images on AIX Version 4.2
and later.

8.3.5.1 What has been changed since AIX 4.1
The procedure for cloning a AIX 4.2 or 4.3 system has been greatly
simplified. All you need is the AIX V4.2 or 4.3 CD-ROM and the AIX V4.2 or
4.3 mksysb tape that you wish to restore.

The mksysb images enable you to clone one system image onto multiple
target systems. The target systems might not contain the same hardware
devices or adapters, require the same kernel (uniprocessor or
microprocessor), or be the same hardware platform (rs6k, rspc, or chrp) as
the source system.

You do not need a separate diskette or allocated customization script to clone
a system in 4.2 or 4.3. Cloning was incorporated into the main 4.2 BOS install
program (bi_main). When booting from CD-ROM and installing a mksysb
tape, bi_main will automatically determine if there are additional device
filesets needed to be installed and install them from the CD-ROM. Also, the
capability to boot from a product tape to install any additional device support
is added.

Since AIX 4.2 there are a three new stanzas for the bosinst.data file:
