L A B E L

The LABEL command sets or deletes a disk volume label.

Syntax

LABEL [drive:] [volume string]

Remarks

The

volume string may be up to 11 characters in length. LABEL only

uses the first 11 characters of a volume label. The characters that are
acceptable in a

volume string are the same as those for a filename.

LABEL prompts as follows. Enter the new label and press enter to modify
the existing label.

Volume in drive C is xxxxxxxxxxx

Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?

If a volume label has previously been assigned to a disk, and you do not
enter a new volume label, the following message is printed.

Delete current volume label (Y/N)?

If the disk did not have a volume label prior to running the LABEL
command, the above message will not appear.

Example

LABEL a:

LABEL displays the volume label of drive A:, if one exists, and allows it to
be modified or deleted.
