Introduction
The
DAX-‐16
is
a
versatile
digital
to
analog
converter
designed
for
cinema
applications.
It
converts
16
channels
of
AES/EBU
or
Harman
BLU
link
to
analog.
The
analog
outputs
are
on
DE-‐15
(also
called
HD-‐15)
connectors
to
directly
drive
amplifiers.
The
DAX-‐16
accepts
48k
and
96k
sample
rates.
The
DAX-‐16
includes
channel
routing,
allowing
any
channel
of
the
digital
input
signal
to
be
routed
to
any
output.
The
DAX-‐16
also
serves
as
a
remote
booth
monitor.
A
local
or
remote
web
browser
can
view
a
bar
graph
showing
all
the
audio
channels.
The
DAX-‐16
also
streams
a
user
selected
mix
of
the
audio
for
remote
monitoring
of
the
system.
Both
the
bar
graph
and
the
streaming
audio
can
monitor
the
analog
audio
leaving
the
DAX-‐16,
or
audio
returned
from
the
amplifier
outputs
(“Vmon”).
The
monitor
bus
can
be
cascaded
between
multiple
units
allowing
a
single
audio
stream
to
contain
a
mix
of
audio
from
the
multiple
units.
Outputs
can
be
named
by
the
user
to
indicate
a
speaker
position
and
band
(for
applications
where
the
crossover
is
in
the
sound
processor).
Buttons
and
level
indicators
take
on
the
user
defined
names,
which
can
be
in
any
language.
The
front
panel
includes
signal
present
LEDs
to
quickly
verify
operation.
The
system
includes
“bypass”
circuitry
to
allow
continued
operation
in
the
unlikely
event
of
the
failure
of
the
sound
processor
or
the
DAX-‐16.
The
bypass
circuitry
includes
a
passive
crossover
for
biamp
and
triamp
operation.
The
DAX-‐16
saves
a
backup
copy
of
its
settings
on
an
SD
card
so
they
can
be
easily
loaded
into
another
unit.
