21 Operate on Batteries
The battery unit is a piece of factory-installed optional equipment.
Alkaline, Oxyride, manganese, nickel hydride, or NiCd batteries can be used with the balance.
The battery unit does not include batteries or rechargeable batteries. Use a commercially available battery
charger to recharge batteries. The balance cannot be used to recharge batteries.
To operate the balance on batteries, pull out the battery case and insert four AA batteries.
The
icon is displayed when the balance is operated on batteries. As the batteries get weaker, the
icon changes to
or
(flashing). When the icon changes to
(flashing), recharge or replace
the batteries.
The battery lifetime shown below (only as a guide) varies depending on the type of batteries used and
whether the backlight is on or off.

Follow the following instructions for safe use:
1.
Do not disassemble or modify the batteries. Take care to ensure you insert batteries with the positive
and negative poles correctly inserted, and be careful about short circuits. Such mishandling could
damage the batteries, or cause the balance to fail or ignite.
2.
Do not put the batteries into a fire because they may explode.
3.
Do not mix old and new batteries, or batteries of different types or manufacturers. Doing so is
dangerous.
4.
If the balance is not going to be used for a long time, store it with the batteries removed.
5.
Do not use batteries that leak.
6.
Observe the precautions printed on the batteries or rechargeable batteries.
7.
Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations.
