5. When Autofocus Fails

The camera’s AF system is highly precise and can focus most subjects.

However, autofocus may not be achieved (the in-focus indicator blinks)

with certain subjects such as the following:

a. Very low contrast subjects.

Ex.: Blue sky; single-color, flat surfaces, etc.

b. Extremely backlit, reflective subjects.

Ex.: A highly-reflective car body.

c. Overlapping foreground and background subjects.

Ex.: A caged animal.

In such cases, lock the focus on an object at the same distance as the

subject and recompose or focus manually as described below.

H Set the focus mode switch on the

* lens to M.

Turn the focusing ring until the

subject is in sharp focus.

When focus is achieved manualiy, the active focusing point flashes in red and the

in-focus indicator iights.
