Setting Up The DL Backup To Disk Appliance
The following sections describe how to set up the Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance.
Network Requirements
The Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance requires the following network environment:
•
An active network with available Ethernet cables and connections
•
A static IP address and DNS server IP address, if not provided by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP)
•
Microsoft Windows Domain Controller if the appliance is configured as either a Managed Media Server (MMS)
or Central Admin Server Option (CASO)
•
User name and password with administrative privileges
Setting Up The Hardware
The appliance includes the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system and, optionally, one or more PowerVault MD
xxxx
storage
enclosures.
NOTE: The software is pre-installed on the appliance. Any media included with the system must be used only if a
system recovery is necessary.
Follow the steps below to set up the DL Backup to Disk Appliance hardware:
1.
Locate the

for the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system and the optional PowerVault MD
xxxx
storage
enclosure(s) that came with the appliance.
2.
Unpack the DL Backup to Disk Appliance hardware.
3.
Rack and cable the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system and storage enclosure(s).
4.
Configure the PowerVault MD
xxxx
storage enclosure(s) to unified mode.
5.
Connect the PowerVault MD
xxxx
storage enclosure(s) to the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system.
6.
Turn on the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system and the storage enclosure(s).
Installing The Appliance In A Rack
Follow the steps below if the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system and the optional storage enclosure include a rail kit:
1.
Locate the
Rack Installation Instructions
supplied in the rack kit.
2.
Follow the instructions to install the rails in the rack unit.
3.
Install the PowerVault DL2
xxx
system and the PowerVault MD
xxxx
storage enclosure in the rack.
NOTE: Repeat the rail installation procedure in the rack unit for each storage enclosure.
