Using The DL Backup To Disk Appliance Console
You can use the Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance Console to:
•
Manage the DL Backup to Disk Appliance
•
Launch the Symantec Backup Exec software
•
Display appliance information
•
Report appliance status
•
Display the available disk space
•
Add or remove tape devices
•
Configure network and SNMP settings
NOTE: After the system boots, the PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance Console may take up to 3 minutes to
report appliance status.
NOTE: If Dell OpenManage Server Administrator is not installed, the DL Backup to Disk Appliance Console prompts
you to install it. If Server Administrator is not installed, you cannot access the status of the system and disk
subsystem.
Launching Symantec Backup Exec
To launch the Symantec Backup Exec using the PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance Console, follow the steps
below:
1.
Click Home → Launch Symantec Backup Exec.
NOTE: For systems running Backup Exec 2010 or older, it is recommended that you use the Intelligent Disaster
Recovery (IDR) wizard to create a system recovery image. IDR is part of Backup Exec designed to recover the
system in the event of a software or hardware failure.
2.
If you select the disk policy Automatic With Confirmation, an alert is created.
3.
To view this alert, click the Alert tab.
The disk configuration is displayed in the dialog box.
4.
Click Yes to proceed with the Storage Provisioning Option (SPO).
The virtual disks are created automatically.
5.
Click on the Devices tab to view the virtual disks.
NOTE: When the backup application is configuring disk storage, the automatic disk configuration status indicator
on the DL Backup to Disk Appliance Console blinks yellow and displays In Progress. Do not shut down the
PowerVault DL2
xxx
system until automatic disk configuration completes.
Adding An Optional Tape Library

To add a tape library, follow the steps below:
