Introduction

The Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance is the latest generation of backup-to-disk protection powered by the

Symantec Backup Exec software.
The DL Backup to Disk Appliance allows:

Scalable storage capabilities to support organizations of any size

Faster backups, as well as quicker recovery scenarios than conventional tape devices and backup

methodologies

Simplified and unified management for disks and tapes

Continuous data protection for data center and remote office servers

Quick and easy deployment experience that reduces the time required to begin protecting critical data

The DL Backup to Disk Appliance includes the following hardware and software:

NOTE: Starting with Symantec Backup Exec 2012, the Dell PowerVault DL Backup to Disk Appliance Powered by
Symantec Backup Exec is not factory installed from Dell. However, the DL Backup to Disk Appliance can be
upgraded to Backup Exec 2012 using the Dell PowerVault Recovery and Update Utility (RUU) 3.5.

NOTE: References to the Intelligent Disaster Recovery (IDR) and Deduplication Storage Folder (DSF) are applicable
only to appliances running Symantec Backup Exec 2010. DSF or IDR does not apply to appliances running Backup
Exec 12.5 or Backup Exec 2012.

NOTE: In Backup Exec 2012, DSF is referred to as Deduplication Disk Storage (DDS). Also, IDR is replaced by
Simplified Disaster Recovery (SDR).

Additional Information

You must enter the initial requirements unique to your IT environment the first time you use the appliance.
