Protection concept
The Wtrans transmitter is, as intrinsically safe equipment, deployable with different protection
fitting variants – portable, screwed together, or for wall mounting – in zone 0 (20), zone 1 (21),
or zone 2 (22). See Chapter 1.4.1 "Zone 0 (20), zone 1 (21), or zone 2 (22)", page 8
The Wrans transmitter with protection fitting for zone separation is designed – using the pro-
cess connection – for the gas-tight attachment to containers or pipelines. See Chapter 1.4.2
"Zone 0 (20) / zone 1 (21) with zone separation by protection fitting", page 8.
In both cases, a maximum medium temperature of 260 °C is permissible at the protection fit-
ting. The maximum ambient temperature at the Wtrans case is 85 °C; the heat input through
the protection fitting in the case must be taken into consideration.
Zone separation is implemented through:
•
Protection fitting with process connection (screw connection or flange)
•
Protection fitting made of chrome steel with wall thickness > 1 mm
At delivery, Wtrans transmitters for zone separation have their process connections laid out as
follows:
•
Thread pitch ≥ 0.7
•
Engaged threads ≥ 5
•
Screw-in depth ≥ 8 mm
The sealing in the process connection is the responsibility of the system manufacturer.
The device identification is to be made based on the identification markings in this operating
manual. See Chapter 2.2 "Identification markings according to EU directive 94/9/EC (ATEX)",
page 16.
