Troubleshooting Guide
A. PULLER
12.
SOLUTION:
• Reverse the connections on one end of the hose
assembly between the foot control valve assembly
and the puller (see section 5.B.2).
• The adjustable flow control knob on foot control
could be limiting movement. Turn flow control knob
counterclockwise until full movement is achieved
(see section 5.C.1).
• Check that the area under the foot control pedal is
clean and free of all obstructions.
• Check adjustable pressure relief valve setting to
ensure that it is not opening prematurely (see sec-
tion 11.B).
• Check the hydraulic power source that the hydraulic
power provided to the puller is the required 2000
to 2500 psi (137-172 bar) of pressure and 6 to 10
gpm (22.7-37.9 lpm) of flow.
• Check system for hydraulic leaks.
• Puller is not properly aligned with the pull line. The
pull line must be placed around the capstan at a slight
angle to the edge of the capstan (see section 7.A).
• The posts on the shaft must line up with the rooves
on the capstan (see section 5.D).
• Apply an anti-seize compound to the ID of the cap-
stan and the OD of the puller shaft.
• Hydraulic pressure is remaining in the hydraulic
lines. Carefully unscrew one of the quick-connect
couplings to relieve the internal pressure. Before
disconnecting the hoses, be sure to cycle the foot
control valve with the power supply off to relieve
any internal pressures.
• Contamination has gotten into the couplings.
Visually inspect couplings; clean and remove any
contamination. Use the supplied dust caps.
PRObLEm:
Capstan does not rotate in the required direction
when the foot pedal is depressed.
Foot control pedal will not depress fully.
Puller is not achieving maximum pulling force or
speed.
Pull line will not stay on the capstan.
Capstan will not go onto the puller shaft.
Hydraulic quick-connect couplings will not go
together.
