Diversity of Sports on YouTube
Sports on YouTube allows anyone, anywhere, to follow the leagues, teams, and sports that they love.
YouTube is a global platform, and sports channels reflect that diversity. Some sports channels are focused on
entire leagues and teams, while others are focused on single athletes. There are nearly an unlimited number
of possible sports channels, but the vast majority fall into one of these five categories:
Leagues/Governing Bodies,

Typically the rights holder to either current or library game/match content
•
Large seasonal fluctuations in views and upload counts
•
Ability to leverage known athletes and brands
Teams/Players,
Example:

May or may not have rights to actual game/match action
•
Unique access to athletes, behind the scenes footage, and exclusive content

Established fan bases, useful for building audience
Action Sports,

Either focus on a range of action sports or specialize in single sport
•
Often a mix of documentary and action sports footage
