Connecting an external modem
You can use a PC Card modem in your computer’s PC Card slot. For
information on connecting and using a PC Card modem, see the
documentation that came with your modem, “Using a PC Card Modem”
in the section “Using PC Cards (PCMCIA Cards)” in Chapter 2 of this
manual, and the “Using PC Cards” topic area of Mac OS Guide, available in
the Guide (h) menu.
You can also connect an external modem to the printer/external modem port
on the back panel of the computer.
To connect an external modem, follow these steps:
1 Make sure the computer is in sleep or shut down.
2 Connect the modem to a power source and to the phone line.
3 Make sure the modem is turned off.
4 Connect the modem cable to the port marked with this icon:
5 Turn on the modem.
6 Wake or restart the computer.
7 Make sure AppleTalk is turned off in the Chooser.
8 To use the modem with telecommunications software, be sure to indicate that the
modem is connected to the printer/external modem port in that software’s setup
procedure.
The external modem is ready to use.
