Computer display

The high-resolution thin-film transistor (TFT) premium display provides clear and brilliant text and graphics.

For details, refer to the instructions in “Changing display settings” on page 44.

Built-in microphone

The built-in microphone captures sound and voice when it is used with an application program capable
of handling audio.

System status indicators

Your computer has a hard disk drive access indicator.

If your computer is shipped with a wireless LAN feature, a wireless WiMAX feature, a wireless WAN feature,
and a Bluetooth, it also has a Wireless LAN/WAN/WiMAX status indicator and a Bluetooth status indicator.

Power switch

The power switch is lit whenever the computer is on and is not lit when the computer is in sleep mode.

Use the power switch to turn on the computer. To turn off your computer, use the Start menu Shut Down
options.

If you cannot turn off the computer by this method, press and hold the power switch for 2 seconds.

If your computer stops responding and you cannot turn it off, press and hold the power switch for 4-6
seconds. If the computer still does not respond, remove the ac power adapter and reset the computer by
inserting a needle or a straightened paper clip into the emergency reset hole to turn off the computer. To
locate the emergency reset hole, refer to “Bottom view” on page 7.

The power switch also can be programmed through Power Manager to turn off the computer or put the
computer into sleep or hibernation mode.

ThinkVantage button

You can use the ThinkVantage button to interrupt the startup sequence of your computer and start the
Rescue and Recovery

®

workspace, which runs independently of the Windows

®

operating system and

is hidden from it.

Volume control buttons

The built-in volume buttons enable you to quickly adjust the volume of the sound from your computer, mute
the sound entirely, or set the microphone to mute.

PCI Express Mini Card slot for wireless LAN/WiMAX (some models)

Your computer might include a PCI Express Mini Card for wireless LAN/WiMAX in the PCI Express Mini Card
slot which enables wireless LAN/WiMAX communications.

Fingerprint reader

Your computer has a fingerprint reader. The fingerprint authentication technology enables you to use your
fingerprint to start the computer and enter the ThinkPad
