Chapter Two – Installation
2.1 Unpacking the 5242-2SE
Carefully unpack the 5242-2SE and inspect for damage. If any damage is observed, immediately notify HP.
Save the carton and packing materials in case your need to ship your unit.
2.2 Installing the 5242-2SE
2.2.1 Slide the 5242-2SE into the adapter bracket. Using the four 10-32 screws and washers (provided),
secure the 5242-2SE to the adapter bracket.
2.2.2 If connecting to a NonStop S-series server, connect the SCSI cables to the host computer's SCSI
port. Attach the other end of the SCSI cables to either of the subsystem's SCSI connectors.
2.2.3
If connecting to a Integrity NonStop server, connect the SCSI cables to either the M8201 Fibre
Channel to HVD SCSI router or NonStop S-series I/O enclosure. The Fibre Channel to HVD
SCSI Router or S-series I/O enclosure is connected to the Integrity NonStop server via a Fibre
Channel cable.

2.2.5
Connect the -48 volt DC power cord to the power connectors of the 5242-2SE. There are
independent DC power ports for each of the two drives.
2.2.6
The hardware is now installed. For instructions on how to perform a tape backup, refer to your
backup software socumentation.

Check that you have terminated the unit and set the SCSI IDs. (See Sections 2.3 and 2.5
respectively)
2.3 Termination
The SCSI bus requires termination to be installed at both ends of the bus. Termination power must be
supplied by at least one device on the bus. The 5242-2SE terminates externally using standard 68-pin
connectors. The two rear panel connectors of drives A or B are interchangeable. Be certain to use the
correct terminator, a high-voltage differential, for your host computer environment. The SCSI terminators
are included with the 5242-2SE. This table summarizes the SCSI termination requirement.
