5.11.4 Manually Selecting the Tape Density

Tape density format can be controlled by the display unit or by the NonStop server. When the
appropriate drivers exist, the latter method is generally preferred, and a setting of

FF

should be

used. Other density values shown allow the SCSI bridge electronics to control the tape density.

Note:

Once the settings have been configured through the setup menus, these settings become
the default start-up values. Density can be changed on a tape-by-tape basis any time the
tape is at BOT during normal operation. Pressing the mode switch cycles the available
density settings. Depressing the mode switch a second time selects the setting. This
setting is used until the unit is repowered or reset. The setting selected in the setup menu
is then used as the default value.

5.11.5 Setting the Error-Alert (ECC/Rewrite Percentages) Thresholds

The electronics allow you to set a numeric percentage for error-alert thresholds that cause the
amber LED (the lower LED on the units front panel) to blink when exceeded. Enter error-alert
thresholds by the Numeric Entry method. First, set the rewrite threshold followed by the ECC
threshold. Entries take the form

XX.X

, so you can enter values in the range of

00.0

percent

to

99.9

percent. Setting values less than

10.0

percent is recommended. Lower values cause

the amber LED to light or blink at a lower percentage of error occurrences. The default setting
is 10.0%.
