9 Troubleshooting Guide
Symptom
Possible Cause
Solution
Pilot orifice may be restricted.
Clean the orifice.
Thermocouple is not sensing
the pilot flame.
Replace thermocouple.
Pilot will not remain lit.
Thermocouple misaligned
Check thermocouple position. If
problem persists, replace
thermocouple.
Thermostat may not be set
properly.
Set thermostat to desired house
temperature.
The control knob may be in the
PILOT position.
Set the control knob to the ON position.
The burner venturi may be
restricted.
Clean burner venturi to remove
obstruction.
Pilot flame may not reach the
burner.
Make sure the manifold gas pressure is
set to manufacturer’s recommended
pressure. If not, adjust to
recommended pressure.
Main burner will not
ignite.
Faulty gas valve.
Replace gas valve.
Gas supply valve may be
turned off.
Turn gas supply valve on.
Gas supply may be depleted.
Check gas supply, and replenish if
necessary.
Main burner and pilot
will not light.
Faulty gas valve.
Replace gas valve
Gas pressure is set incorrectly.
Adjust manifold gas pressure to
manufacturer’s recommended
pressure.
Main burner will
flashback.
The orifice may be misaligned.
Adjust orifice so that it is positioned
perfectly vertical.
