You can use an external label or lack thereof as a guide. The exhaust FRUs are labeled with an
airflow symbol on the faceplate to indicate that the assembly exhausts air. The symbol also appears
on the top of the FRU. All FRUs in a chassis must be of the same type so that airflow direction is
consistent.
The intake FRU is not labeled. This unit pulls air in from the non-port side of the switch and exhausts it
out the port side. This is generally referred to as port side exhaust airflow. This is reported as Reverse
airflow by the chassisShow command.
FIGURE 8 Example of the airflow symbol
The green E symbol indicates an exhaust FRU. This unit pulls air in from the port side of the switch
and exhausts it out the non-port side. This is generally referred to as non-port side front-to-back
exhaust airflow. This is reported as Forward airflow by the chassisShow command.
See the samples below for the Fan Direction values in the chassisShow output.

The Brocade 6510 has two power supply and fan assemblies, as displayed in the following figure.
Fabric OS identifies the assemblies from right to left on the nonport side as assembly 1 and assembly

locations are correct.)
