Disc type indication
Before and after finalization, disc type indications on the display
for a CD-R or CD-RW loaded in the CD-R/RW player/recorder
change as follows:

CD-RW
• Unfinalizing a CD-RW changes the disc type indication in reverse.
FINALIZATION
Finalization is the process of embedding a Table Of Contents (TOC)
on a CD-R or CD-RW on which recording is completed.
This process enables the CD-R and CD-RW to be played on the
CD player of this unit or any other conventional CD players. (CD-
RW discs, however, can be played only on CD-RW players.)
Once finalized, a CD-R can no longer be recorded, while a CD-
RW becomes recordable again if the tracks are erased or
unfinalized. (See "ERASING RECORDINGS ON A CD-RW" on
page 24.)
NOTE
• Never turn the unit off by pressing POWER or disconnecting the
AC cord during the finalizing process.
If the unit is turned off even by accident or power failure damages
the disc and it may no longer be restored.
(To restore a damaged CD-RW, see "ERASING RECORDINGS
ON A CD-RW" on page 24.)
• Do not finalize the CD-R or CD-RW which was recorded on other
equipment. Doing so may cause the finalizing process to be
unsuccessful.
• During the finalizing process, all the buttons (except POWER)
are inoperative.
• Dust or scratches on a disc may prevent it from being successfully
finalized.

1 Load a CD-R or CD-RW in the CD-R/CD-RW player/
recorder.
Load the disc with the label side up. To open or close the disc
tray, press
z CD-R/RW OPEN/CLOSE.
2 Press CD-R/RW.
Wait until the unit finishes reading the loaded disc. (Make sure
the "CD-R" or "CD-RW" indicator lights up.)
3 Press FINALIZE.
"FINALIZE?" is displayed.
4 Within 10 seconds, press ENTER/ILLUMINATION.
Alternatively, press ENTER on the remote control.
"FINALIZE??" is displayed.
To cancel finalization, press s .
5 Within 1 minute, press ENTER/ILLUMINATION to
start finalization.
Alternatively, press ENTER on the remote control.
The approximate finalizing time is displayed and counts down.
