G. Set iSCSI Initiator on Windows
iSCSI is an Internet Protocol-based storage networking standard for linking
data storage facilities. By carrying SCSI commands over IP networks, iSCSI
is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets and to manage storage
over long distances. iSCSI can be used to transmit data over local area
networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), or the Internet and can
enable location-independent data storage and retrieval. The protocol
allows clients (called initiators) to send SCSI commands to SCSI storage
devices (targets) on remote servers.
RAID systems use iSCSI Initiator to enable connection of a host computer
to an external iSCSI storage array using Ethernet network interface cards.
The following steps are required for enabling iSCSI Initiator:
1. Complete the hardware and software setup of RAID systems.
2. iSCSI Initiator comes pre-installed in Windows 2008 servers. If you are
using Windows 2003 server or below, you need to download and
install the iSCSI Initiator package to the host computer.
3. Reboot the host computer.
4. Launch iSCSI Initiator.
iSCSI Initiator Configuration:
1. Open iSCSI Initiator.
Note
In Windows 2008 server, click Start > Administrative Tools >
iSCSI Initiator to open the application.
The mode of launching the application may vary depending on your
server’s operating system.
