Spindle Turning

Spindle turning is the operation performed when
a workpiece is mounted between the headstock
and the tailstock (see

Figure 42).

To set up a spindle turning operation:

1. Find the center point of both ends of your

workpiece by drawing diagonal lines from cor-
ner to corner across the end of the workpiece
(see

Figure 43).

Make sure the headstock and tailstock cen-

ters are properly aligned before beginning

any turning operation. See Aligning Centers

on Page 41 for additional instructions on this

procedure. Failure to observe this warning

could result in the workpiece being thrown

from the lathe resulting in serious personal

injury.

2. Using a wood mallet, tap the point of the spur

center into the center of the workpiece on
both ends, leaving an indented center mark.

3. Using a

" drill bit, drill a

" deep hole at the

center mark on the end of the workpiece to
be mounted on the headstock spur center.

Damage to your eyes and lungs could result

from using this machine without proper pro-

tective gear. Always wear a face shield and

respirator when operating this machine.
