Why Does My Digital Photo Look Different When It is Printed Than on
the Computer or TV Screen?
Digital Cameras, TVs, Computers, and color printers use different technologies to create colors.
The colors of your digital photo or scanned image should look pretty close to the actual
subject of the picture; however, when you transfer an image from one technology to another
there will be slight color differences. Your FotoShow
™
Image Center is capable of displaying
many more colors than your color printer is able to print. Your printer will try to find the
closest approximation to the color possible, but there is often a noticeable difference.
Why are My Pictures Cropped When I View Them Full Screen?
All televisions crop images that fill the screen. Each television manufacturer’s TV screen
has different specifications, so it is impossible to say how much each image will be
cropped on any given TV set. Television broadcasters have determined an area of the
screen that will not be cropped on any TV. This area is referred to as the “Title Safe”
area of the screen. The title safe area of the TV is approximately 512 pixels by 385 pixels.
To avoid cropping in full screen mode, Iomega recommends that you position the main
subject matter of your photos well away from the edges of your photo (in the title safe
area). Your image will not be cropped when it is viewed in a mode other than full screen.
If you wish to display your entire photo without cropping, use the themes provided in
both the Album and Slideshow rooms.
Why Doesn’t My FotoShow
™
Digital Image Center Display the Pictures I
Take with My Digital Camera?
Your FotoShow
™
Digital Image Center is capable of displaying JPEG images only. Some
digital cameras can use file types other than JPEG or allow you to save your images in
several different file types. Check the user’s manual that came with your camera for
instructions on changing the file type your camera creates to JPEG. Your FotoShow
™
Image
Center transfers any file type from 3.3v SmartMedia
™
cards, CompactFlash
™
cards, and IBM
®
Microdrives
™
to a Zip
®
disk. To view photos that your camera saved in other file formats,
copy the photos from your camera to your Zip
®
drive, then use a computer to convert the
file to a compatible JPEG format. See the JPEG compatibility guidelines on page 48.
What Causes the Delay That Sometimes Occurs When I Insert
a Zip
®
Disk?
Whenever new photos are added to a Zip
®
disk, your FotoShow
™
Digital Image Center will
scan the disk for valid JPEG files. When your FotoShow Image Center finds a JPEG file, it
will prepare the file to be viewed on the television screen. It may take your FotoShow™
Image Center several minutes to perform this task, depending on how many new files are
on the disk. Your FotoShow Image Center will scan the Zip disk every time it is inserted,
but the delay will only be noticeable if JPEG files have been added.
