Isolated Integrated Gate Driver for IGBT/MOSFET

Motor Control Applications

Description

The HCPL-3120 drives the IGBTs or

MOSFETs directly in this circuit and

provides full regulatory approved

isolation between the power and

control circuits. The output power

supply can be derived from rail to rail

supply by using a bootstrap circuit

illustrated in the “Inverter Design

using Gate Drive and Current Sense

Optocoupler” section. The value of

Rg in the above circuit is chosen to

control the peak gate charge and

discharge current as well as the

output power dissipation.

Performance of Circuit

• Peak output current of 2.0A im-

proves driving efficiency.

• Superior common mode tran-

sient noise immunity: 15 kV/

µs@

Vcm = 1500 V.

• Low Icc current and wide Vcc

range: 15 V - 30 V over -40°C to

100°C.

• Low V

of 0.5 V eliminates the

need for negative Supply Voltage
