Glossary of Terms Technical Manual TM 3554-000

Abnormal conditions generally requiring corrective action. Major faults stop
execution of the program. Minor faults do not stop execution but issues a
warning, displayed as a fault on the digital operator.

A type of memory that can be programmed while installed in a printed circuit
board. It retains its contents even in the absence of power.

One of three Program Control Unit types. A programming language element,
typically represented by a graphical block, consisting of inputs, outputs, internal
variables, and a set of operations. Function blocks are instantiated and can
contain state information from one invocation of an instantiation to the next.

Symbols defined for use among all Program Control Units associated with a
node. Global symbols cannot be seen or accessed across the network.

A connection device that receives a signal, then transmits it to the connected
devices.

Part 3 of the international standard on Programmable Controllers, which
specifies Programming Languages, including Relay Ladder Logic (RLL),
Structured Text (ST), Sequential Function Charts (SFC), Function Blocks (FB),
and Instruction Lists (IL).

The IEC 61131-3 Instruction List language for programmable controllers.
Alternatively, a program control unit developed using the Instruction List
language.

Acronym for Liquid Crystal Display.

Acronym for Light Emitting Diode.

Symbols defined for use within a Program Control Unit. Its use is limited to the
program control unit in which it is defined.

Acronym for Network Interface Card.

The unique address assigned to a point in an Arcnet network where service is
provided, service is used, or communications channels are interconnected.

A selection box that permits setting of parameters and feedbacks. This
determines the menu items and structure displayed to the user of the Smart Trac
AC1.

An embedded PC bus standard. The standard defines the mechanical size of a
self-stacking bus. Also an IEEE draft standard, called the P996.1 Standard for
Compact Embedded PC Modules, the PC/104 Specification, Version 2.1, July
1994, PC/104 Consortium.

A networking method that provides open, standard, inter-operable and fully
transparent networking between field devices and controlling computers, PLCs
or DCSs.

An entry on the Object Menu of the Control Manager. It is a storage bin for user
programs which may consist of relay ladder logic, function blocks, sequential
function charts, and/or structured text.

Acronym for Random Access Memory. This type of memory loses the state of
its contents upon removal of power.

An implementation of the IEC 61131-3 Ladder Diagram language.

A symbol, stored in NVRAM, that remains unchanged after a power-
down/power-up sequence.
