Procedure:
1. Strip off the conductor insulation of the cable by 10 mm.
2. If you use bootlace ferrules, crimp the bootlace ferrules gas tight.
3. Connect the insulated conductors of the cable to terminal -X700 or terminal -X701 (see Section 6.3.1 "Connecting
Conductors to the Spring-Cage Terminal", page 24). Observe the correct allocation and ensure that the insulation
is not clamped.
4. Connect the cables to the I/O module and configure the channels (see the documentation of the Ethernet I/O
module).
6.3.6 Connecting the RS485 Cable of the Sunny SensorBox
SMA Solar Technology AG recommends using COMCAB-type SMA data cables which are available in various lengths
as indoor and outdoor variants.
The communication devices of the Communit have been cabled. The Sunny SensorBox is connected to the connecting
terminal plate in the lower area of the Communit (see Section 6.1 "Overview of the Connection Area", page 22). You
will find further information on the RS485 communication bus in the RS485 cabling poster and in the Sunny SensorBox
documentation.
Cable requirements:
☐ The RS485 cable must be shielded.
☐ Cross-section of the RS485 cable: 2 x 2 x 0.14 mm
2
to 2 x 2 x 1.5 mm
2
☐ The conductors Data+ and Data‒ are a twisted pair.
☐ Conductors +12V and GND are a twisted pair.
Requirements:
☐ No supply voltage is present.
☐ The RS485 cable is correctly inserted into the Communit (see Section 6.2 "Inserting the Cables into the
Communication Distribution Unit", page 23).
☐ The shield of the RS485 cable is correctly fitted (see Section 6.3.4 "Connecting the Cables for the
SMA Cluster Controller", page 26).
Procedure:
1. Strip off the insulation of the conductors of the RS485 cable by 9 to 11 mm.
2. Connect the conductors to the connecting terminal plates -X520 and -X530 (see Section 6.3.1 "Connecting
Conductors to the Spring-Cage Terminal", page 24). Observe the correct allocation and ensure that the insulation
is not clamped.
3. Terminate the RS485 communication bus. Terminators must only be installed at the bus start and bus end.
4. Ensure that the RS485 cable is securely attached.
