Installation and deployment
To improve the performance of the server, iMC BIMS uses the Install and Deploy model.
Installation refers to copying the iMC BIMS installation file to the server’s disk. Deployment refers to
extracting the installation package and creating database scripts on the master server. To deploy to the
slave server, first transmit the installation file to the slave server. The components of iMC BIMS are
operational only after they are deployed.
H3C recommends installing the management platform first, and then installing the auto-configuration
servers.

The server installed with iMC BIMS and deployed with the management platform serves as the master
server. The auto-configuration server component of iMC BIMS should be deployed to other servers,
which are called slave servers. Deploying auto-configuration servers can improve the system
performances and increase the number of devices managed by iMC BIMS.
You can deploy iMC BIMS in the following ways:
• Centralized deployment: Only deploy the management platform to the master server.
• Distributed deployment: Deploy the management platform to the master server, and deploy
auto-configuration servers to one or more slave servers.
NOTE:
•
The master server is the management center of iMC BIMS. It interacts with the slave servers to implement
network management.
• A slave server can only exchange data with the master server. To deploy the components on a slave
server, start the local deployment monitoring agent by accessing the master server through IE.
• Make sure that all slave servers and the master server use the same operating system and database.
CAUTION:
In distributed deployment, if you use Oracle databases and a Linux operating system, make sure that the
master and slave servers use the same database instance name (or Oracle SID).
The following sections detail the installation and deployment procedures.
Installing iMC BIMS
The iMC BIMS installation procedure on Windows and that on Linux are the same. The following
describes how to install iMC BIMS on a Windows Server 2003-based machine.
The iMC BIMS software is available in the DVD delivered with the product.
