Chapter 5.................................................................................. Profiles
Profiles are preconfigured XML files that are uploaded to the GPS receiver to setup the
receiver’s operational characteristics; e.g.: a Base RTK receiver or a Rover RTK
receiver, etc. StarControl provides the ability to create profiles and save them in a list to
be used at a later time. These files can be used, reused, and shared from one handheld
device to another.
Profiles are stored as XML files in the NCTProfiles directory with a .NCP (NavCom
Profile) extension. The NCTProfiles folder is created on the handheld device, if it does
not already exist. The folder or files can be beamed from one handheld device to
another using IR, Bluetooth, or transferred from the PC to the handheld using Microsoft
®
Active Sync™. The NCTProfiles folder is created in the same location as the StarControl
executable.
The Profile options are accessed by clicking on View / Profile on the StarControl menu
bar. The Profile tabs are used to create, modify, upload, and save profiles. There are 7
tabs that configure a given profile. All profile configuration screens are to the right of the
main Profile tab, as shown in Figure 25. StarControl initializes with a default profile that
is uploaded and written to the NCTProfiles folder as default.ncp each time the profile tab
screens are activated. It does not upload this default profile until the Upload Profile
button is clicked.
The default profile .NCP file is write-protected so no changes made will
be saved to the default file.
The Profile options chosen must not exceed the option limits of the receiver;
e.g.: if the receiver is optioned for 5Hz nav maximum, do not send a profile that
requests >5Hz nav. This will cause a failure in the profile uploading sequence.
