CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE JUST PURCHASED THE
BEST SURGE PROTECTION IN THE INDUSTRY!
Adhering to these instructions guarantees maximum performance
of this Protection device.
The optional Remote Monitor can be connected to the SPD (Surge
Protective Device, also called TVSS), sold separately. It can be
mounted up to 200 ft.away from the SPD.
In the event of a fault, the unit provides both an audio and visual alert
signal.
MOUNTING:
The Remote Monitor can be mounted in two ways.
1) Attach double-sided tape to the back of the enclosure and affix to
any clean flat surface.
2) Use the mounting tabs located on the enclosure ends. The type of
screw and hardware to use will depend on the mounting surface structure
and are not included with the unit.
CONNECTING:
This unit monitors the "C" and "NC" positions of the terminal block or
the two red wires of the SPD device. These lines are non-polarized and
connect to the two outside pins of the Remote Monitor connector.
NOTE: To connect wires to the Remote Monitor terminal strip, insert
a small screwdriver into the rectangular hole to release the cage-clamp
spring. Insert wire and remove the screwdriver.
CONNECTING CABLE (not provided):
Any multi-conductor cable, minimum 24 AWG, can be used to
connect the Remote Monitor to the SPD.
CAT5 communication cable is inexpensive, readily available, and
works well in this application.
POWERING THE UNIT:
Two AA alkaline batteries (provided) power the unit. The unit should
operate approximately 2 years with monthly testing.
To replace batteries, remove the four screws and the cover to access the
battery holder.
NOTE: Use alkaline batteries for best performance.
OPERATION:
The Remote Monitor performs a status check of the SPD device
approximately every 3 seconds. The "Service Required" LED will flash
and the alarm will sound if the SPD device
has failed. The alarm can be silenced during
a failed condition by pressing the Test/
Silence button until the LED flashes. Re-
peating the previous step or once the failure
is repaired, the Remote Monitor will return
to default status.
DIAGNOSTICS: Press and hold the Test/
Silence button until the alarm sounds. Re-
leasing the button will clear the test.
NOTE: If the "Protected" LED is not
flashing and pushing the Test/Silence but-
ton does not sound the alarm, replace the
batteries.
