Changing Modes

Changing Modes

The PIN calculator reads cards in the READ mode and calculates PINs in the PIN mode.
When it is in the READ mode, the display reads “READ”. When it is in the PIN mode, the
display reads “PIN”. To change modes, press the push-button switch. The calculator alternates
between the two modes when you press the push-button switch.

Reading a Card

To read a card, proceed as follows:

Ensure that the display reads “READ”. If it does not, press the push-button switch.

Swipe a card through the reader slot in the direction of the arrows on the reader. The magnetic
strip should face up. The calculator displays the first four digits on the card.

Press the push-button switch to display the next four digits on the card.

Hold down the push-button switch - the calculator displays each four digits of card data for
half a second. The calculator displays a hyphen (-) as the field separator.

After all the card data has been displayed, press the push-button switch to return the calculator
to the READ mode.

If an error occurs when the card is read, the calculator will display “ERR”. Press the push-
button switch and swipe the card again.

Note: After waiting for 30 seconds, the calculator times out and blanks the display. Press the

push-button twice to return the calculator to READ mode.

Calculating the PIN

To calculate the PIN for a card, proceed as follows:

Ensure that the display reads “PIN”. If it does not, press the push-button switch.

Swipe a card through the reader slot in the direction of the arrows on the reader. The magnetic
strip should face up. The calculator displays the PIN.

Press the push-button switch to return the calculator to the PIN mode.

If an error occurs when the card is read, the calculator will display “ERR”. Press the push-
button switch and swipe the card again.

If the card is not properly encoded, the calculator will display “BAD”.

Note: After waiting for 30 seconds, the calculator times out and blanks the display. Press the

push-button twice to return the calculator to READ mode.
