ATTENTION: READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL
OR SERVICE THE WILKERSON AUTOMATIC DRAIN VALVE! RETAIN
THIS SHEET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

Your Wilkerson Model X51 automatically drains liquid water and oil from
compressed air receivers and systems. This drain valve automatically opens
and shuts (fires) every time the system pressure decays approximately 10 to
20 psig (0.7 to 1.4 bar) during the compressor cycle. It is recommended that
the compressor cycle is set greater than 20 psig (1.4 bar) to insure firing of the
valve.

Maximum Pressure ...................................................... 200 psig (13.5 bar)

Temperature Range .................................... 32°F to 150°F (0°C to 65.5°C)

Minimum Differential Pressure Required ....................... 20 psig (1.4 bar)

Weight ............................................................................... 0.8 lbs (0.35 kg)

Height ......................................................................... 3.75 inches (95 mm)

Inlet/Outlet Ports ...................................................................... 1/4 NPT (F)

Screen Adapter ............................................................... 3/8 NPT (M) inlet,

1/4 NPT (M) outlet

INSTALLATION

1. Do not install until you have read this entire Installation and

Maintenance sheet.

2. Locate the lowest point in the receiver tank or system that has

unregulated pressure. Do not install on a regulated pressure line or unit
will not operate.

3. CAUTION: Prior to installation, make sure the system where the

valve is to be installed is depressurized to 0 psig (0.0 bar).

4. Installation of a manual 3-way shut-off valve between the receiver and

drain valve is strongly recommended.

5. For optimal operation, it is recommended to install drain in the remote air

pilot configuration. (See Figure 5)

6. Prepare the drain tap on the receiver tank prior to installation by draining

all water in the system. Blow down the line with the manual drain to
remove all loose foreign material, rust and pipe scale.

7. Install the screen adapter in the inlet of the valve (Figure 3)

and connect the outlet of the receiver to the 3/8" NPT end of the adapter.

8. Mount the unit with the bonnet portion of the valve up and locate the

drain valve as low as possible as shown. (Figure 1)

9. Installation of a “Y” strainer ahead of the valve is recommended so

system can be blown down occasionally to eliminate solid particles and
insure trouble-free operation.

10. If it is desired to pipe the condensation to a remote sewer drain, locate

automatic drain valve at the sewer drain and run pipe to the valve. Do not
run more than 10 feet of pipe from outlet of valve to sewer drain.

MAINTENANCE

1. To ensure trouble-free operation, the valve should be disassembled,

cleaned, and inspected twice a year.

2. CAUTION: Prior to attempting to service the unit in any way

depressurize the air line to the valve.

3. Remove the bottom plug and inspect the main and pilot valve for

contamination or wear. Remove the four screws that attach the bonnet to
the valve body. Pull the piston out and inspect O-rings and bores for
contamination or wear. Remove the check ball cap from the piston and
inspect check ball and seat for contamination. If any wear is noted, order
the maintenance kit, XRP-95-511.

Refer to Figure 4 for steps 4, 5, and 6.

4. To reassemble, clean all parts and lubricate O-rings using Parker O-Lube

or equivalent.

5. Install the pilot valve and pilot spring into the main valve. Next install the

main valve and main valve spring into the body and reinstall the bottom
plug. Torque to 1.5-2.0 ft-lb (2.0-2.7-N-M).

6. To reassemble the top portion of the valve, slip the lubricated piston into the

top of the body and install the check valve pin into the center of the piston.

CAUTION: IF CHECK VALVE PIN IS NOT INSTALLED, THE VALVE
WILL NOT RESET AND SYSTEM WILL LOSE PRESSURE.

Next, install the check ball and spring into cap and snap the check valve
cap onto the piston boss. Set piston spring on the piston and reinstall the
bonnet with the four screws. Torque 2.5-3.0 ft-lb (3.4-4.0 N-M).

7. Reinstall the drain valve in the system, repressurize the system, and

verify correct operation.
