Writing the UTOC
Every time you record or edit anything on a recordable
MD,
the recorder needs to update the User Table of Contents
(UTOC)
so that it can playback the disc properly next time (see page 9 for more detailed information on what the
UTOC
is and what it
does). Generally, the recorder keeps track of all the records and edits you make on a disc during a session then, when you
eject the disc, it writes the updated
UTOC
to the disc all in one go.
in addition to this automatic update, you can have the recorder write an updated
UTOC
to the disc anytime using the
UTOC
write command. This can be a good thing to do occasionally to safeguard the contents of a disc after a series of recording or
editing operations. For example, if there is a power outage or you accidently switch off the recorder, there's a danger that
the recorder will lose the recording and editing information and so won't be able to update the
UTOC
correctly when you
eject the disc. Flere's how to use the
UTOC
write function:

Press EDIT/NO when the disc is stopped.

Turn the jog dial until you see UTOC Write in the
display.
On the remote, use the and buttons.
Press the jog dial (ENTER).
On the remote, press ENTER.
The recorder prompts you to write with the message
UTOC Write?
