• Glossy surface restrictions based on the GL/SL Series Transmitter and Receiver, or the SL-M Series
Note that this requirement does not apply to only either the SL-M Series or the GL/SL Series, but rather to all equipments in a given
installation.
If a glossy surface is present in Area B in Graph 1 on Page 3 or in Area C in Graph 2 on Page 4, the GL/SL Series may be unable to
function properly, resulting in an inability to detect human or object approach. Note the following warning carefully and install the SL-M
Series and GL/SL Series so that it is not susceptible to the glossy surfaces.
1
Determine the proper positioning for the SL-M Series and the GL/SL Series Transmitter and
Receiver.
See step 1 under “Precautions for Installation” on page 2.
2
Determine the positions at which the devices should be installed so that the
SL-M Series mirror surface and the GL/SL Series Transmitter or Receiver are
parallel to one another.
See step 2 under “Precautions for Installation” on page 2.
3
Attach Bracket B to the target machine.
You must provide the screws for attaching Bracket B to the target machine.
KEYENCE recommends hexagonal socket bolts (M6).
Use at least 2 of the 3 slots to attach the bracket to the machine.
If a glossy surface other than the SL-M Series is present in Area B in Graph 1 on Page 3 or in Area C in Graph 2 on Page 4, that
surface may act in the same way as the mirror surface of the SL-M Series, causing the beam from the GL/SL Series Transmitter to
enter the GL/SL Series Receiver without being reflected by the mirror surfaces of all or some of the installed SL-M Series. If such
a glossy surface is present in one or both of these two areas, you must take measures to ensure that the beam reflected from the
glossy surface does not enter the GL/SL Series Receiver (as by changing the angle of the glossy surface, applying a matte finish,
or covering the surface with a black cover). Failure to follow this warning may cause the GL/SL Series to malfunction due to the
reflected light from the glossy surfaces, and may result in significant harm to machine operators, including serious injury or death.
