Hoisting

Use a cradle sling arrangement inserted through the

forklift pockets when hoisting the aerial platform. Machine

damage can occur if the sling is attached anywhere else.

Warning

The potential for an accident increases when the aerial

platform is lifted using improper equipment and/or

lifting techniques. Death or serious injury could result

from such accidents. Use proper equipment and lifting

techniques when lifting the aerial platform.

Know the weight of the aerial platform and the capacity

of the lifting devices before hoisting.

y

Lifting devices include the hoist or crane, chains,

straps, hooks, sheaves, shackles, slings, and other

hardware used to support the machine.

y

The empty vehicle weight is stamped on the serial

number placard and is listed in Chapter 2.

The user assumes all responsibility for:

y

Making sure the equipment used is capable of sup-

porting the weight of the aerial platform.

y

Making sure all manufacturer’s instructions and warn-

ings, regulations and safety rules of their employer

and/or any state or federal law are followed.

Use the following procedure to hoist the aerial platform

onto the transport vehicle:

1. Properly stow the aerial platform.

2. Inspect the forklift pockets to make sure they are free

of cracks or sharp edges and are in good condition.

There are two forklift pockets on the chassis (refer to

Figure 10.5). Have any damage repaired by a quali-

fied service technician before attempting to hoist the

machine.

3. Remove all personnel, tools, materials, or other loose

objects from the platform.

4. Insert the straps through the forklift pockets using

correctly rated straps. Strap damage and/or failure

can result from the strap contacting the sharp corners

of the fork pocket.

5. Use spreader bars of sufficient length to keep the

straps, or cables from contacting the scissors struc-

ture or platform. Careful rigging of the spreaders is

required to prevent machine damage.

6. Adjust the position of the strap so the aerial platform

remains level when raised off the ground.

7. Use the hoist or crane to carefully raise and position

the aerial platform onto the transport vehicle.

Securing for Transport

Use the following procedure to secure the aerial platform

on the transport vehicle.

1. Chock the wheels.

2. Remove all personnel, tools, materials, or other loose

objects from the platform.

3. Properly stow the aerial platform.

4. Place the lower controls emergency stop switch in

the off position.

5. Turn the control selector switch to the off position “0”

and remove key.

Caution

Ratchets, winches, and come-alongs can produce

enough force to damage machine components. Do

not over tighten the straps or chains when securing

the aerial platform to the transport vehicle.

6. Use chains or straps to securely fasten the aerial

platform to the transport vehicle insert the straps

through the forklift pockets. Proper tie-down and

hauling is the responsibility of the carrier.
