2 Managing nPartitions
Basic system components
iLO
iLO Domain Management Processor (DMP)
The iLO Domain MP is responsible for managing an entire blade link domain. It is responsible for
maintaining the partition configuration of the domain.
From the DMP, a user can configure nPartitions. A user can configure the Blade Link Domain into
smaller units of 1 or 2-blade nPartitions.
BL870c i4 options:
•
One 2-Blade System (AA)
•
Two 1-Blade nPartitions (AB)
BL890c i4 options:
•
One 4-Blade System (AAAA)
•
Two 2-Blade nPartitions (AACC)
•
One 2-Blade nPartition and Two 1-Blade nPartitions (AACD)
•
Two 1-Blade nPartitions and One 2-Blade nPartition (ABCC)
•
Four 1-Blade nPartitions (ABCD)
NOTE: The configurations listed above are the ONLY ones supported.
Requirements
•
“Configure iLO Settings” user privilege is needed.
•
iLO nPartition license is needed (included in all BL870c i4 and BL890c i4 systems).
•
System power must be off for a blade in order to make nPartition Configuration changes
affecting that blade.
•
The nPartition lock must be unlocked for a blade in order to make nPartition Configuration
changes affecting that blade.
iLO Monarch Management Processor (MMP)
The iLO Monarch MP is the one iLO in a multi-blade server or nPartition that provides a single
point for user and OA management for that server or nPartition. The MMP resides in the blade
with the lowest enclosure bay number within the nPartition.
From the MMP a user can configure the nPartition lock in order to prevent partitioning of the system
by the iLO Domain MP. The nPartition locks are only available on iLO Monarch MP blade systems.
The nPartition lock is “unlocked” by default.
NOTE: Partition A is always present in the Blade Link Domain and hosts the DMP. The partition
lock is not present for Partition A.
