B.3 Possible Problem Areas with TCP/IP
Here are some possible problem areas that may be encountered with TCP/IP:
1) By using the IP # of the Tandem host, it should be possible to PING the
Tandem host from the PC. Choose the ‘PING’ button from the SMM screen.
Type in the IP # of the Tandem host with which communication is being
attempted.
Four reply lines should come back indicating that talking to the Tandem host
is possible. If the PING window closes without giving the reply output, there
is a problem with TCP. Talk to the System Manager.
** The ping must work or nothing else will **
2) If Tandem system names are to be used, additional setup is required.
a) HOSTS files must be setup on the PC and the Tandem side
Each HOSTS file must have the IP # and the system name of the Tandem
system with which communication is wanted.
(Example, 192.231.36.6 K1000)
b) The Tandem HOSTS file can normally be found in the
$SYSTEM.ZTCPIP location.
c) The PC HOSTS file can normally be found in the
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
d) On the Tandem host, a PARAM will need to be setup for everything to
talk.
Key in the following:
PARAM TCPIP^PROCESS^NAME
< Process Name >
(i.e., $ZTC0)
