novell certification

Certification of Tape Devices with NetWare means that the Tape Device has been
tested using Novell's certification test suite, and is supported by Novell for use
with Sbackup (NetWare 3.x / 4.x) or SBCON (NetWare 5.x).

Although your SureStore Tape Drive might not be marked as being Certified by
Novell, the device will still operate fully with Sbackup/SBCON and a wide range of
ISV Software. HP works very closely with Novell to ensure that all current HP
SureStore Tape Drives are supported by the native tape drivers. If support is not
offered by the driver that came with your NetWare installation or Service Pack,
newer drivers will be provided on HP's support web site and on the HP SureStore
Tape CD-ROM provided with your Tape Drive. HP also carries out extensive in-
house compatibility testing, and no problems have been found using HP
SureStore DAT and DLT tape drives with Sbackup and SBCON.

However, Novell will only officially support Tape Drives for use with Sbackup and
SBCON if they have been certified. HP is actively working to ensure that all HP
SureStore DAT and DLT tape drives are certified by Novell.

The current Novell NetWare Tape Device certification status for HP SureStore
Tape Devices is given below:

Notes:

1. No further qualifications planned.
2. Neither NetWare 3.x or 4.x provides native autoloader support in SBackup.

ISV backup software

ISV Backup Software does not generally use the Novell Tape Device drivers, but
instead uses the ASPI layer and appropriate drivers. Hewlett-Packard has an
ongoing compatibility testing program to ensure that HP SureStore Tape Drives
work with a wide range of HP and 3rd party servers, Operating Systems, SCSI
HBAs, and ISV Backup Software.

supported devices lists

HVs (SCSI HBA vendors) and ISVs (backup software vendors) maintain their own
supported devices lists. Hewlett-Packard is actively working with major IHVs and
ISVs to ensure that HP SureStore Tape Drives are included in their compatibility
testing and are included on their supported devices lists.
