7 Optimizing server power consumption and cooling
Insight Control power management is an integrated application that provides centralized
monitoring and control of server power consumption and thermal output, allows you to set
power regulation policies for groups of servers, and optimizes and controls usage of data center
power and cooling facilities.
Power management features enable you to track power consumption and increase the capacity
of your data center by reducing power and cooling requirements of servers to an amount that
reflects the workload of the servers.

• Provides access to all power management capabilities though a
single console view.
• Provides options to define and edit data centers, racks, power
delivery devices, and undiscoverable systems.
• Enables you to view power and thermal capacity and consumption
summaries for all systems with drill-down to detailed historical
reports and power capacity settings.

Enables the definition and execution of pre-defined responses when
the power and cooling capacity of the data center is interrupted or
reduced. Tools

Provides the following options:
• Outlet Locator... Enables you to remotely control the outlet
identification light (UID LED) of an HP Intelligent PDU (iPDU).
• Outlet Power... Enables you to remotely enable or disable the
power of the outlets in an HP Intelligent PDU (iPDU).

Provides the following options:
• Power Usage Controls... configures power regulator and power
capping on supported servers.
• Configure Alerts... enables you to configure power threshold
alerts for one or more servers.

utilization of selected servers, enclosures, power delivery devices,
and racks.
• Export Report... enables you to generate or schedule a report with
power and thermal data for a given time interval for selected
