Configuring SPM to communicate with SANs

When managing Brocade based SAN environments, SPM must have access to Brocade’s network
device manager, which is outlined in the Minimum Requirements section. Additionally, make sure
the following have been done.

1.

Check that BNA or the Standalone SMI Agent is installed on a server.

2.

Check that a BNA administrator account with full access is configured and available for use
by SPM when communicating with BNA.

3.

Check that the CIMOM is up and running on the server.

4.

Check that SSL is enabled in BNA.

5.

Check that the CIMOM is bound to the NIC that is on the same subnet that SPM is on so that
SPM can connect and communicate with Brocade’s network device management software.

Connectivity services

Connectivity Services provide the underlying building blocks for other SPM services in the way of
assuring connectivity between desired storage and hosts.

Managed networks

Managed networks in SPM refer to networks that SPM is able to actively manage (for example
query for topology, make zoning changes, etc.) which includes Brocade networks and any networks
supported by 3rd party SAN Adapters.
Networks with a Zoning State of Zoned and Capability of Automated Zoning will have zoning
automated by SPM. This means that SPM will actively be modifying the underlying networks to
