Installation
Power supply replacement
The following sections describe how to replace the power supply in a Business Services Gateway
8-port (BSG8ew) and the Business Services Gateway 12-port (BSG12ew/aw/tw).

Prerequisites to power supply replacement
• If the system is still operating, perform the procedure “Shutting down the BSG8ew/12ew/
aw/tw” on page 63 .
• After the system shuts down, perform the procedure “Disconnecting the cables” on page
65 .
• Obtain a power supply for the BSG8ew/12ew/aw/tw from Nortel.
• Ensure you have an antistatic wrist grounding strap.
• Plug the DC side of the power adapter to the BSG unit first, then plug in the AC side of the
power adapter.
Removing the power supply
Use this procedure to remove the power supply for the BSG8ew/12ew/aw/tw.
Prerequisites
• Do not operate the BSG8ew/12ew/aw/tw with the cover removed.
Caution: Risk of equipment damage
You must wear an antistatic grounding strap at all times when handling
electronic components. Failure to do so can result in damage to the equipment.
Danger: Risk of electrical shock
Disconnect the power cord, telephone cables, and network cables before opening the
BSG8ew/12ew/aw/tw main unit.
