The following table describes all the Netopia R2121 Dual Analog Router back panel por ts.

Power por t
a mini-DIN8 power adapter cable connection.
Telco 1 por t
a red RJ-11 telephone jack labelled “Telco 1".
Console por t
a DE-9 Console por t for a direct serial connection to the console screens. You
may use this if you are an experienced user and choose not to use Smar tStar t.

Phone 1 and 2
two yellow Phone por ts above the Console por t for attaching analog telephone
devices, such as phones or fax machines to share the telephone lines.
Auxiliar y por t
an HD-15 Auxiliar y por t for attaching an external modem or the optional
AppleTalk kit.
Telco 2 por t
a red RJ-11 telephone jack labelled “Telco 2".
If you have only one telephone wall jack, suppor ting either one or two telephone
numbers, use the “Telco 1" por t. “Telco 1" suppor ts two phone connections on
a single line; “Telco 2" suppor ts a single phone connection.
Crossover switch
a crossover switch with Normal and Uplink positions. If Ethernet Por t #1 is used
for a direct Ethernet connection between a computer and the router, set the
switch to the Normal position. If you are connecting the router to an Ethernet
hub, use Ethernet por t #1 on the router and set the switch to the Uplink
position.
8-por t Ethernet hub
Eight Ethernet jacks. You will use one of these to configure the Netopia R2121.
For a new installation, you use the Ethernet connection. Smar tStar t only works
over Ethernet. Later, if you want to do some advanced configuration, you can
Telnet to the Console-based management screens via the Ethernet connection.
You may also use the Console connection to run the Console-based
management using a direct serial connection. You may either connect your
computer directly to any of the Ethernet por ts on the router, or connect both
your computer and the router to an existing Ethernet hub on your LAN.
