3.5 Set up your DucTester for duct leakage testing

3.6 Unpack, connect the gauge to the DucTester
Prior to beginning any test, it is important to verify that the system is functioning properly. Check that
the batteries have enough power, and that the fan can be controlled either automatically or manually.
3.6.1. Charge the gauge

The nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries should save you about $200 per year on batteries, so it’s
worth spending some time to get familiar with them. You can change them to non-rechargeable
batteries but ensure the
[Setup]
key is used to change the “Battery Type” because trying to charge non-
rechargeable batteries will damage your gauge.
1. If they're not already installed, install the 4 NiMH AA batteries into the battery
compartment of the DM-2 gauge. Always use four batteries that are exactly the same and
that have been charged for the same amount of time. Never use mismatched batteries.
2. The batteries will need to be charged for a minimum of 18 hours if this is the first time
they're being used.
