If you experience any problems with the unit, please take a moment to
look through this chart and see if you can solve the problem yourself
before you call your dealer or ESOTERIC customer service/ technical
support. Moreover, the problem might be caused by something other
than this unit. Confirm that connected devices are also functioning
properly.
General
No power.
e Check the connection to the AC power source. Confirm that the
AC source is not a switched outlet and, if it is, that the switch is
turned on. Make sure there is power to the AC outlet by plugging
another item such as a lamp or a fan into it.
Make sure the power cord is firmly seated in the IRC connector
on the back of your P-02.
e Check the connections.
Remote control does not work.
e Press the POWER button of the main unit to turn it on.
e If the batteries are exhausted, change the batteries (page 7).
e Use the remote control unit within the effective range (7
m/23 feet) and point it toward the remote sensor on the front
panel.
e Make sure that there are no obstacles between the remote
control unit and the main unit.
e If a fluorescent light or radiant type electric heater is near the
unit, turn it off.
Check all buttons on the remote control to ensure none of them
are stuck in the down position.
Other units with remote controls operate incorrectly.
e Note that other units with remote controls may operate
incorrectly because of infrared light “overspill” when you operate
the remote control of this unit.
Will not play.
e Reload the disc with the label side up. If the label side is not up,
place the disc on the tray correctly.
e If the disc is dirty, clean the surface of the disc. If the disc is
scratched or has any sticky substance on its surface, do not
play the disc until you have corrected the condition of the disc.
Do not use after-market stick-on labels or “disc enhancement”
devices that sit on top of a disc or wrap around a disc under any
circumstances. Do not use felt pen edge enhancement options
on a disc played back in this unit. Use of these enhancements
may also cause a disc read error.
e If the unit has moisture condensation, leave the unit for one or
two hours with the power turned on.
e If a disc is noticeably scratched do not use it.
Buttons do not work properly.
e If another operation is still in progress, wait a moment and try
again.
Severe hum or noise is heard.
e Place the unit as far away from TVs as possible.
Make sure your unit is grounded to the D/A converter and/
or preamplifier. Use the ground lug on the back of the P-02 to
connect to other devices.
There is no sound from the speakers or sound is distorted.
e Check that your D/A converter, amplifier and speakers are
connected securely (page 8).
e Set the digital output correctly for the connectors in use (see
pages 20, 22–23).
e Check the operation manual and settings of the amplifier.
e If the disc is dirty, clean the surface of the disc.
e If the unit is in pause mode, press the PLAY button to resume
normal playback.
No digital output from a Super Audio CD
e Digital audio output from a Super Audio CD requires an Esoteric
ES-LINK compliant D/A converter (D-01, D-02, D-03 or D-05) or a
D/A converter with i.LINK (AUDIO) terminals.
e For multi-channel sound output, connect a D/A converter that
supports multi-channel output to the i.LINK (AUDIO) connector, set
the output to "Multi" (see page 19), and set the disc playback area
to "SACD Multi" before starting playback (see page 18).
Word Sync
The WORD indicator flashes.
e The word sync mode is selected, but there is no clock source. Set
the word sync mode to “OFF” or “auto” (page 22).
e An incompatible signal is being input. Check word sync
connections and the settings made on connected devices.
The display shows “No Word!”
e No word clock signal is being received. Check cables, connections
and the settings of the external word clock generator.
e If no word clock signal is being received, set the word sync mode
to “OFF” or “auto” (page 22).
The display shows “WRD ERROR!!”.
e An invalid word sync signal is being received. Check the
connection of the WORD SYNC connector and setting of the
connected clock generator.
The input frequencies permitted for this unit are 44.1 kHz, 88.2
kHz, 176.4 kHz, 10 MHz and 22.5792 MHz (page 22).
The display shows “WRD UNLOCK!” “10M UNLOCK!”
e The unit is unable to lock to the input word sync signal. Check
the settings of connected devices (page 22).
The display shows “TRAY ERR!” when the disc tray is opened
or closed.
e “TRAY ERR!” appears when the disc tray stops when opening or
closing because of an obstacle in front of the tray or because the
disc has not been properly loaded. Remove the cause of the error
and press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to open or close the
tray.
Since this unit uses a microcontroller, external noise and other
interference can cause the unit to malfunction. If this occurs,
turn the power off and restart operations after waiting for
about one minute.
