Recording
When playing digital input sources, including function DVDs, signals
encoded in the Dolby Headphone mode are output from the recording
output terminals and can be recorded on other recording devices.
q Connect headphones to the headphones jack.
w Signals encoded in the Dolby Headphone mode are output from
the recording output terminals (in analog).
e Select the parameters, set the desired mode and start recording.
NOTES:
• Dolby Headphone processing makes the analog recording output
level lower than the normal stereo recording output level.
• Do not change the parameters or unplug the headphones during
recording. Doing so will cause interruptions in the recorded sound.
• Dolby Headphone signals cannot be recorded during playback of
analog sources. The analog input signals are output as such from
the recording output terminals.

Playing in the Auto Decode Mode (only with multi-channel speaker settings)
• The auto decode mode can be selected when the ADV-M71 is used in combination with a subwoofer with built-in amplifier and power amplifier,
center or surround speaker system and a multi-channel speaker configuration (5.1 channels, etc.) is set.
• To make the 5.1-channel setting, set the speakers to “5.1CH SURROUND” in the quick system setup and select “Room Setting” and “Listening
Position”. (See pages 31 to 32.)
• In the auto decode mode, multi-channel playback of multi-channel sources (Dolby Digital or DTS) can be performed automatically according to
the format of the input signals.
• For 2-channel sources as well, playback is possible in the Auto Stereo, Dolby Pro Logic II Cinema, Dolby Pro Logic II Music or Dolby Pro Logic
mode, as set by the 2-channel mode setting. (Two channels of stereo signals are played in the Auto Stereo mode. In other modes playback is
multi-channel.)
[1] Dolby Digital and DTS surround playback (for digital inputs only)
• The applicable sources and procedures are the same as those described at “[1] Playing Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound” under “(1)
Playing in the Dolby Virtual Speaker mode”.
• At step 3, set the surround mode to “AUTO DECODE”. The sound is played according to the format of the input signals.
• At step 6 there are no Dolby Virtual Speaker mode surround parameters.
[2] 2-channel mode setting
• With the auto decode mode, one of four multi-channel playback modes, namely stereo 2-channel playback in the Auto Stereo mode (factory
default), Dolby Pro Logic II Cinema, Dolby Pro Logic II Music and Dolby Pro Logic, can be selected and set for 2-channel sources.
“Auto Stereo” mode cannot be selected for with functions only analog inputs (TUNER, LINE-2, etc.). To play such signals in stereo, set the
surround mode to “STEREO”. (See page 44.)
• Operations are the same as those described at “[2] 2-channel mode settings” under “(1) Playing in the Dolby Virtual Speaker mode” on page
51.
• At step 1, set the surround mode to “AUTO DECODE”.
• The 2-channel modes selectable at step 3 are as follows:
PL
II
CINEMA
PRO LOGIC
AUTO ST
PL
II
MUSIC
Auto Stereo can be selected when the function is set to DVD, LINE-1 or D.AUX.
• For the 2-channel mode surround parameters in the auto decode mode, refer to “Surround parameters (5)” (auto decode 2-channel mode).
