• Dolby Digital is a digital sound compression technique developed
by Dolby Laboratories.
Supporting 5.1-channel surround sound, as well as stereo (2-chan-
nel) sound, this technique enables a large quantity of sound data to
be efficiently recorded on a disc.
• DTS Digital Surround is a 5.1-channel surround sound system,
which is widely used in movie theaters around the world. The sepa
ration between channels is good and provides a very real surround
effect.
• Linear PCM is an uncompressed digital audio signal. While a CD is
recorded in 44.1 kHz/16 bit, a DVD is recorded in 48 kHz/16 bit up
to 96 kHz/24 bit. Therefore, the sound reproduced with these sig
nals is potentially better than that found on CDs. This player repro
duces linear PCM in two channels.
• Bitstream is a compressed digital audio signal. This signal can be
decoded into different channels to produce, for instance, 5.1-chan
nel surround sound.
•The digital audio output terminal (optical) converts electrical signals
into optica! signals and transfers them to an amplifier. These optical
signals are immune to electrical interference, and they also have
minimal effect on other equipment.

tiil If it is set to “Yes", the player converts linear PCM to 48 kHz even
during analogue output.
Do the following if you wish to take advantage of high quality
96 kHz sound.
Select “No” and connect this player's audio output terminal to an
amplifier’s audio input terminal with the audio/video cable (in
cluded) or an audio cable (not included).
S;2When connecting an amplifier (with an optical or coaxial digital
input terminal) which does not contain a Dolby Digital or DTS
Digital Surround decoder, be sure to select “PCM” at “2 Dolby
Digital” and “PCM" (DVD-RV80) or “Ofr (DVD-RV60) at “3 DTS
Digital Surround". If “Bitstream” is selected, any attempt to play
DVDs (or CDs encoded with DTS) may cause a high level of
noise that can injure your ears and damage your speakers.
