Filming in Very Low Temperatures
The batteries may fail when you film in tem
peratures below about 0°C (32°F). Load new
batteries and keep the camera warm inside
your coat or by other means until you begin
to film. We recommend using alkaline or
Ni-Cd batteries, as well as carrying a spare
set with you when filming in low tempera
tures. Alternate the two sets of batteries,
keeping the one which is not in use warm in a
pocket. Do not throw the original set away.
That the batteries do not work in the cold
does not necessarily mean that they won’t
work normally again in warmer temperatures.
Condensation forming on a camera and lens
taken from cold outside temperatures into a
warm room may cause corrosion. To prevent
this, while still outdoors place the camera in
a plastic bag. Seal it and take it indoors.
Leave the camera in the bag until it gradually
reaches room temperature. It takes about
one half hour for the temperature to change
10°C (18°F).
