Scan

Problem

Recommendation

The printer cannot scan.

Check the following:

The printer is connected directly to the computer.

The computer can work in bi-directional mode.

The Scanner driver is correctly selected in your
application.

A recommended interface cable is being used.
(IEEE 1284 compliant)

The

Scan to Email

and

Scan to File

button do

not work.

Check the following:
(For USA/Canada)

Make sure to run the “MFL ProControl Center” and
“Brother 3in1 Resource Manger” stay into the Task
Tray.

If the Paperport 6.1 was installed
1. Click the ‘START’. Select ‘Program’ and then

select ‘Programs’.

2. Click on “Paperport” program folder.
3. Click [Brother SmartUI PopUp].

(For Other countries)

“Unimonitor” and “Brother 3IN1 Resource Manager”
must stay in the task tray.

If Unimessage was installed
1. Click on ’START’. Select ‘Programs’ and then

select ‘Programs’.

2. Click on “Unimessage Pro” program folder.
3. Click [Unimonitor].

For DOS users

Problem

Recommendation

The printer prints, but it
prints incorrect
information. Sometimes
it prints a couple of
characters and then ejects
the page, etc..

This is an indication that your application printer
emulation setting and the printer’s emulation do not
match. Check in your application software which
printer you have selected to make sure the printer is
set up correctly. Remember the printer emulates
widely used printer selections: HP LaserJet 5P
(PCL5e). Try setting the printer into HP emulation
and then select the HP LaserJet 5 printer in your
application software.
