drop cables should be buried to a minimum depth of 12 in. (30 cm) or 18 in. (45 cm) in colder cli-
mates. START TRENCHED INSTALLATIONS AT THE RESIDENCE.
Dig the trench as straight, level and rock-free as possible.
Drop cables can be placed in the trench. If the cable is on a reel, mount the reel so that pay-off is underneath
toward the direction of the pull.
Pull and place the cable in the trench while walking toward the pedestal. Remove the pedestal cap and dig a hole to
meet the trench.
CAREFULLy feed the drop cable from the trench and up through the pedestal base. Store at least 7.5 feet (2.3 m) of
cable in the pedestal. Fill a few feet of the trench to hold the cable in position.
Go back to the residence and CAREFULLy feed the drop cable through a piece of conduit 18 in. (45 cm) long. This
will be used to protect the cable when it is attached to the NID.
The drop cable can now be attached and spliced per CommScope’s BrightPath tap and NIU installation documents.
